Image Breaker – My First Game as a Solo Dev (and Definitely Not A Typical Brick Breaker)

I've spent ages searching for a brickbreaker that didn’t just toss bland, single-colored blocks at the player. So I stopped waiting and started coding. Image Breaker is the game I always wanted to play, and now it’s real. In this game, every block is part of a full image that gradually shatters as you play. It’s destruction with purpose.

This is an early version with limited content, but the game is already fully functional, smooth, and ready to go with much more to come. I’m currently working on additional levels, new gameplay twists, an endless mode, a boss rush and a full cast of bosses with unique mechanics. And in the long run, I’d love to add a level generator, so players can create their own custom levels using their own photos. Let’s see how far this can go!

What makes Image Breaker special:

• Currently 18 levels of escalating challenge
• 6 boss fights, each with their own mechanics
• No boring single-colored bricks, each block is part of a detailed image
• 16 brick sizes (from 1×1 to 4×4)
• About 1,300 level layouts, depending on the game mode.
• Includes nearly 40 powerups, a mix of reimagined classics and entirely new mechanics crafted specifically for this game
• 3 boardsets with distinct gameplay styles
• 4 difficulty levels with automatic saving after each level (4 save slots per boardset)
• 3 game modes implemented in the Animals and Sightseeing boardsets.
• Optional obstacles for extra challenge and a 20% point bonus
• Highscore boards for every level and difficulty

Boardset Overview:

• Animals: Small to mid-sized grids
• Sightseeing: Mid to large-sized grids
• Outer Space: A hybrid of Brickbreaker and Space Invaders plus a pure Space Invaders mode with 6 droppable weapons

When you complete all levels on a difficulty, the matching save file is automatically cleared — neat and simple.

Image Breaker isn't a clone. It's a reimagining of a classic genre, brought into the 21st century with original ideas, bold design, and a personal touch — all developed by a solo indie dev with a love for gameplay that feels fresh. And this is just the beginning.
